My name is Jane, plain and simple. I have lived my entire life in Iowa. I am a farmer’s daughter and have retained my love of the land. Although my husband is a design engineer and we have lived in town our entire married life, I love my own garden spot where I can grow our own food. However at this time we are living in a 500 sq. ft. apartment while our new home is being built. I desperately miss my own fresh produce, fresh flowers and herbs.
I am a follower of Jesus and am actively involved in women’s ministries. I love my husband who is my very best friend! We were high school sweethearts and have been married for 38 years. We raised 3 sons who are now all married and we are blessed with 7 grandchildren who continually light up our lives!
I am a morning person with a routine…pray, read, and coffee! I meet with God which power starts my day and equips me to face the remaining day. I love food. I love the flavor, the scent, the color and the texture. When I cook I feel like I have an artist’s palette at my fingertips. I have always been intrigued with nutritious food. I stay away from artificial ingredients, transfats, high-fructose corn syrup and other nasty stuff. I am for clean eating!
I chose Sweet Basil Kitchen, because I use a lot of herbs in my cooking. They infuse your food with kicked up flavor! They are God’s gift to our palette.
My favorite pastime is reading…usually cookbooks or Christian inspirational books. I also enjoy reading other food blogs.

-Gina-
So glad I stumbled onto your blog! I love using fresh produce from my garden and can’t wait to make the tomato bisque. I made ratatouille the other night and it was delicious! Though time and miles separate us you are so very dear to my heart.
How nice to hear from your Erica! We have such sweet memories of our time in Mexico, don’t we? We visit the Huber orphanage in the winter when we are in Phoenix. We will always have a heart for the Hispanic people. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Hi, Jane
Saw your comment on the muffins at Cookie Madness, so popped over here to see what you’re up to. Loved reading about you, your strong marriage, and faith in Jesus. We have a lot in common. Blessings on your day!
Grandma, I love your blog! It is really neat! You make the food look so good, and it is! (Even though I’m scared to try it!) But someday I’ll find a passion for food just like you! I love you!
Your Grandaughter Rose:)
Rose, I am so honored by your nice comments. I know someday we will call you Rosy Crocker! Keep writing, you are the best!! Love and hugs from Grandma!
Nice blog and recipes. I wish you all the best.
Jane, I just discovered your website and feel that we are already “kindred spirits”. I too, love Jesus and start my day the same way you do! We have been married for 35 years (you have me beat!
) and have 2 grown children. I love to cook and have a huge herb garden right on my deck! I look forward to following your blog! Blessings!
Well, I went right to your blog and I do believe we are kindred spirits! Your photography is absolutely stunning! Tell your honey he takes fantastic photos!
What blessing to meet another follower of Jesus. Thanks for your nice comments.
Blessings to you!

I’m so glad I ran into your site. I’m going to try out some of your recipes. I’ve been cooking a little over 6 months now.. almost everyday
P.S., I like this picture of you and your husband!
